"Halfway Point" - Interesting Facts

  • The idea for the movie's basis, "A character who goes to a place he or she has never been to in order to find something or someone. A quest", was selected out of a book of ideas that Chad read at a book store to get ideas for a book he started to write (now has finished).
  • Script writing started in September of 2002.
  • The original title was going to be "A Long Way From Home", but after seeing a book with that title by Tom Brokaw they decided to seek a new title. Eric met Tom Brokaw in South Dakota.
  • The title for "Halfway Point" was finally selected for the movie after Chad had a discussion with a co-worker about his long distance relationship. The co-worker talked about how they talk on the phone as well as arrange to meet halfway between their two locations.
  • Before "Halfway Point", Eric and Chad started writing a script during college about a friend who dies in a drunk driving accident, entitled "The Memory Remains", but the script was never completed. Eric's character name Sean was used in that script and brought over to "Halfway Point." Chad's character was Cole, but he decided to change it to Cameron after watching "Young Guns II" starring Alan Ruck who played Cameron in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Ironicially, Kevin O'Neill, the director of photography, looks like Alan Ruck.
  • The main character's original name was Simon, but after discovering that the character's name was used in Dana Altman's 1995 film "Omaha: The Movie" they decided to change it to Andy while on their way to play tennis and knowing that tennis star Andy Roddick is from Omaha.
  • Eric Dwight and Chad Bring attended Wayne State College as well as indie film maker Dana Altman.
  • Josh Ames was the original person chosen for the lead before the script was written to model what the main character should be like. Eric and Chad both thought of him separately before they both realized they had the same person in mind.
  • Many of the characters have four letters in their name just like Chad and Eric (and Josh), but that was not intentional.
  • Mark's secretary Susan's last name (Watson) was the original name of a fictional small town that Eric and Chad wanted to use before they decided on Wayne.
  • Eric and Chad both started writing the script together and then wrote separately until the script was complete.
  • The apartment in the film is Chad's apartment where the script was written.
  • The actress Jill Jackson plays Emily and the actress Emily Ringling plays Kara. The actor Pat Smith plays Justin and the actor Justin Grosnickle plays Jake. Note: this causes confusion on the set!
  • Andy's cube at work in the film is really Eric Dwight's cube at work in real life.
  • Production for "Halfway Point" began on May 17, 2003 and wrapped up on August 31, 2003. Over the summer of '03, 24 days were used for filming.
  • Editing was done at Metro Community College during June & July (2004) by Eric, Kevin, & Chad.
  • The order of scenes in the original script and the order the film will be shown aren't the same.
  • "Tia" played by Sarah Klugh is living in California and had a role in "Cruel Intentions 3".
