'Halfway' Entertains All the Way!

A Chris Dowd review of the "Halfway Point" premiere

January 2005

On Saturday, January 8th, TPG's own Eric Dwight, along with his creative collaborator and Roommate Productions co-founder Chad Bring, debuted their feature-length movie "Halfway Point" to a packed house at Omaha's Westwood Cinema. The film, centering on the choices and struggles of a recent college grad trying to find his niche in life as he moves from small Nebraska town of Wayne to the considerably bigger Omaha, is the kind of tale many of us can relate to, as we have all at one point or another found ourselves wondering what's next for us and trying to accommodate change without letting go of the constants in our lives. Throughout the story, I often found myself thinking, "yep, been there," or "I know exactly how he feels," and I could see from their reactions that many in the audience around me felt the same. Of particular note for this newsletter is Eric's role in this movie. Eric served many functions in the creation of this movie, sharing such film-making chores as directing, writing, and editing, but where his presence is felt most is through his onscreen performance. Eric came across as being completely natural and comfortable in front of the camera, and it's clear after watching him perform that he belongs there.

Also of note is one of the more prominent locations in the film, the former TPG Omaha office. Many of you may recall that Eric had gained special permission to use the office for filming on weekends, and the TPG Omaha folks in attendance of the movie were treated to a fun bit of familiarity and nostalgia. Dow Jones QC Julia Houston graced the screen with a walk-on role, and her husband, former TPG trainer Brad Houston, stole several scenes in a comically-written part as the central character's boss.

In all, the experience was outstandingly fun, and a great way to spend a Saturday night. Eric and company delivered an entertaining piece of storytelling that is sure to be the first of more to come. Congratulations Eric, to you, your partners, and your cast and crew at RoomMate Productions!
